I have extremely dry curly hair. Not the nice well behaved curls. No, not those. I have frizzy, stubborn and self absorbed curls that retaliate when I try to tame them by exploding into this horror show you see above. My hair is so dry that if I wash it any more than twice a week it gets totally wrecked. You know how some people get really greasy smelly hair after a week of not washing their hair? Well, not me. I don't know if my hair would ever get greasy on it's own. I've gone as long as two weeks without washing my hair (don't ask, those were some trying times) and it was still dry as a desert fart. But I suppose it could just be my body. Incidentally, I also have extremely dry skin. If I didn't know any better I'd think I was a reptile or a visitor from V (you know what I'm talking about if you were around in the 80s). In any case, the natural state of my hair is unruly and uncooperative. Without intervention, my hair looks like it was rigged with C4 and exploded. Obviously, that's not me in the picture. But that is exactly what my hair looks like when I attempt to tame my curls. After blow drying, it looks like an over used broom. I realize that this look might appeal to some people but it gives my husband nightmares and terrifies little children including my demon spawn daughter. It also scares the shit out of me when I walk past the mirror.
In an effort to look more presentable, I've tried many different products to tame my hair. I tried styling products, hair serums, leave in conditioners, straightening creams, blow dryers, flat irons, pulling at it with my hands, screaming and shaking my fists at it in the mirror. Some of those methods worked better than others but inevitably the most I got was 24 hours before my hair started to rebel and went rogue. Then it's mayhem all over again.
That is until I met Lok & Blok. It has changed my life, literally.

That is until I met Lok & Blok. It has changed my life, literally.
Lok & Blok is a hair product that, when used correctly (and I'm going to talk about this in a minute), eliminates frizz. It's similar to other hair serums like Frizz-Eaze, Sleek Finish, etc. However, Lok & Blok is a far superior product and one that actually delivers on its promise. It works and is continuously effective against frizz until you wash it off with shampoo. Lok & Blok has no odour and is transparent. Its consistency is very much like John Freida's Frizz-Eaze only slightly thicker and creates a waterproof layer on hair. When I first spread it on my hand it felt almost like a super thin glove. Water just rolled off my hand and it did not feel wet.
The name Lok & Blok is a bit awkward (and you don't wanna know what my husband calls it though it does rhyme) but makes sense once you read the description of the product. On the Sabino web site, it states that Lok & Blok locks in essential moisture and blocks out excess humidity. If you've got frizzy hair like myself, then you know that humidity is your number one enemy. And if you live in Atlantic Canada or anywhere near the ocean, then you might as well give up the fight if you do not use Lok & Blok. So far, it is the only product that has worked for my hair. Because of it, my hair is healthy, soft, shiny, straight and stays that way until I wash it off with shampoo.
Lok & Blok works for all types of hair. I use it when I straighten my hair and I also use it when I want to have some defined curls but without frizz. I've also tried it when I wanted to have some wavy locks and it works very well too. It's main job is to lock in the moisture content that keeps hair strong and healthy. Environmental factors often cause hair to dry out. Adding more moisture will work initially but hair eventually dries out again and moisture has to be applied. For example, if I want to keep my hair moisturised I have to apply conditioner to it every 4 hours. That's unrealistic; I don't have time to dunk my hair in the shower four times a day. Maybe if I had a six figure income, 5 house maids, 2 butlers and a nanny I might consider working on my hair for hours on end. Since I have none of those things I prefer to rely on more practical solutions to keep frizz at bay.
Lok & Blok is not water soluble meaning it can only be washed off using shampoo. This unique characteristic allows it to seal the water from towel-dried hair and what makes it superior to other products on the market today. Whereas other frizz reducing products claim to keep your hair hydrated, they in fact are only able to do so for a short term because they are water soluble (i.e. they contain water in the ingredients and can be washed off with just water) and so when it rains (or mists as is common here in Atlantic Canada), those products lose their structure and become diluted, sliding easily off my hair. Lok & Blok on the other hand, does not contain any water and remains intact when it rains. It keeps my hair from reverting back to a giant ball of frizzy curls. My hair stays soft, straight and silky until the next time I decide to shampoo.
There are times when I prefer not to straighten my hair. Lok & Blok does a great job defining my curls without that dreaded halo frizz effect. And because it locks in moisture, hair stays flexible and doesn't feel like straw. My hair flows easily and feels very natural. When I first tried Lok & Blok, I applied too little and so my hair did not stay straight when it became humid. The next time I tried it, I used too much and as a result my hair looked a bit greasy. It takes a couple of tries to figure out how much you need depending on hair type and length. For me, I simply mix a dime sized pump of Lok & Blok with my hair conditioner and apply it to my hair. This creates a protective waterproof layer on my hair and helps it retain moisture. Once out of the shower and hair is towel dried, I apply another two dime sized pumps to the ends and middle of my hair, comb through and let it dry. Once it's dry I either straighten it with a flat iron or simply let the curls flow naturally.
The makers of Lok & Blok also claim that it's the best thermo protector and they weren't kidding. Here's how they explain it: They recommend turning your flat iron up to 450 degrees when using Lok & Blok and that because you can use higher temperatures, styling time is cut in half. They state that the high temperature pushes Lok & Blok deeper into the hair shaft creating more protection. Normally, flat irons that only reach 400 degrees or less burn off surface products, especially water-soluble ones. When the user goes over hair several times they not only burn off the product but the hair as well. This eventually leads to hair breakage and split ends.
I realize that it sounds completely counter intuitive to turn up the flat iron to such high temperatures as we've been often warned by hair stylists and product manufacturers to avoid doing that in order to protect our hair. However, when it comes to Lok & Blok, this is simply not true. The makers of Lok & Blok know what they're doing. My hair has never been healthier and has a shiny smooth feel to it. Even my hair stylist is totally blown away by how healthy my hair looks compared to a year ago. My flat iron does not reach 450, but the highest temperature on it is 410. This is what I use and I go over my hair once, sometimes twice, and Lok & Blok not only keeps it nice and straight, but also it protects my hair and leaves it feeling quite soft. I used to have a forest of split ends. Ever since Lok & Blok, split ends have become a distant memory. I do not have fly aways and my hair does not revert on humid days or when it rains. I am extremely happy with Lok & Blok. It has replaced all other hair styling products in my repertoire.
It's important to understand that Lok & Blok is different from other products even in the way it's applied. For starters, it is not advisable to use it with other hair styling products and even the manufacturers state that in the directions. I have seen many reviews on the internet from people who are dissatisfied with Lok & Blok and claim it did not work for them only to read later in their review that they used it in conjunction with another hair styling product. I cannot stress enough how important it is to follow the directions that come with Lok & Blok. It is absolutely essential to use no other styling products. I once made the mistake of using one of those generic spray thermal protectors while applying Lok & Blok. The results were good as usual, until it rained that day. Even though I was not in the rain, the humidity did it's thing and sure enough, my hair reverted and started to frizz. For the past year, I have been using only Lok & Blok as my styling product. That means no leave-in conditioners, no thermal protectors, no finishing creams, etc. I believe Lok & Blok works best when it is not combined with any other styling product. When I use only Lok & Blok, my hair never reverts to frizz.
Now that we got the effectiveness of Lok & Blok out of the way and we know it out performs any styling product out there, let's get down to the bottom line. Most of us have a budget to run after all. Lok & Blok is more expensive than the average generic drug store product. That being said, I find that it's actually more cost effective when I think of all the money I saved when I stopped buying all those other products that only worked short term. If I had to compare it in price I would say the cost is comparable to products you find at big hair salons. However, this is where the similarity stops. Lok & Blok is far superior to any hair salon styling product. Even at it's regular price of $22 per 3 oz bottle, it lasts much longer and goes much further than salon products. It is worth it's weight in gold. The best way to buy Lok & Blok is during a sale or in bulk, which is what I do. At bulk price, it comes out to about $12 per bottle. Initially, I tried one bottle of Lok & Blok, which lasted me 6 months. Then I purchased it in bulk because the results were astounding.
After using Lok & Blok for a few months, my neighbours and friends did not recognize me until I turned around. Even my family was surprised at how beautiful my hair was. Many of them have since purchased Lok & Blok because they are equally happy with the results. If you are contemplating trying Lok & Blok, I urge you to give it a chance. It will do wonders for your hair. Additionally, the makers of the product are very personable and accessible. I have had email and phone correspondence with Diane and Victor Sabino, and they have been extremely helpful and very kind. Their customer service is exemplary. Victor has been quick to answer any of my questions and I greatly appreciated his tips and recommendations.
In summary, Lok & Blok is a great product and one of the few that actually delivers on its promise. Observe..

Here's a close up of what used to be a straggly mess of split ends, which is now very strong, healthy and shiny hair strands. I promise you, this is without any other hair products. I am not using any styling creams or leave-in conditioners or anything of the sort. This is just Lok & Blok and nothing else. Isn't it amazing!?
I have been raving and gushing about Lok & Blok for the entire length of this post so I'm sure you're now wondering if there is a catch. There is none. But like everything that has pros and cons, Lok & Blok has only one disadvantage which is the fact that it is not sold anywhere in Canada, at least not that I know of, and I've searched, believe me. Thankfully, Sabinohair.com ships to Canada. In fact, I can only get it directly from Sabino's web site which guarantees its authenticity and that it's not diluted with anything else. According to Sabino's web site, no one else is authorized to sell it so it's not a good idea to buy it elsewhere, specifically because there have been cases where the product was sold by an unauthorized third party and did not perform like the original. Some people suspected that it was diluted with water. So, just buy it from the folks who made it. They made a good product; they deserve credit.
When it comes to shipping I would absolutely avoid USPS. Although Sabino ships for orders over $50 for free in the USA, they charge for shipping to Canada. Their shipping prices are reasonable but I would strongly recommend that you use Fedex instead. It's not much more expensive than Sabino's shipping prices to Canada but also guarantees that you will receive your order. I've had the unfortunate experience of having the products stolen twice, where I get an empty box in the mail. After several inquiries and much paperwork it turns out that the depot in Los Angelos had already received the box empty, TWICE for two freaking separate orders! I am certain that Sabino.com is not the culprit. In fact, they have been more than helpful when dealing with this matter and once I switched to Fedex, I've never had a problem. I, personally, think that Lok & Blok is so awesome and popular where it's coming from, that some one at the post office has discovered it's worth and so he/she most likely took the bottles for their personal use. Some people don't like paying for stuff; they are called thieves. I was taught that thieves go to hell, but I wish that the person who stole my order would run out of Lok & Blok and have eternal frizz for the rest of their miserable existence.
In the meantime, you need to try Lok & Blok because it will change your life. It did mine. For more information on Lok & Blok or to purchase it, please visit www.sabinohair.com and click on the link to 'Shop' if you want to see a full list of the products they offer. Note that the prices mentioned above may vary and are only accurate at the time this post was published.
